One of the smaller protection areas of the country (0.85 km2 / 0.33 sq. miles), mainly consisting of mangroves and tropical dry forest. The area is located on a private property on a mango farm of about 10 km2 (3.9 sq.miles). The inhabitants developed the habit of offering other types of plants as alternative alimentation in order to avoid them destroying the mangos. Animals are, amongst others, Capuchin monkeys, white-nosed coatis and raccoons, as well as many seabirds in the coastal area.
Curú can be reached from Nicoya or Paquera and is only few kilometers from Playa Tambor (6 km / 3.75 miles after the village of Paquera and 16 km / 10 miles before Tambor). It is also a great starting point for excursions to the Tortuga Island with snorkeling equipment.
