Day 1

Poás Volcano und Arenal
In the early morning we drive to the entrance of the Poás Volcano national park, where we will hike to both craters of the Poás Volcano. The active crater with temperatures between 104o F and 158o F is located in the center of the 14,000 acres nature reserve; the poisonous sulfur fumes do not allow any life near by but make Poás - because of the gas process - the world's second biggest geyser.

About noontime, we continue our trip west through the mountains of the Cordillera Central, passing coffee and cocoa plantations to Arenal Volcano. In the late afternoon visit the Baldi Termae, where we will enjoy a bath in the sulphurous waters within a beautiful tropical setting. And - with some luck - we will be able to watch the fascinating volcano eruptions with red sparkling lava. ON Volcano Lodge ***
